The king run has been off to a slower than normal start, but is gaining momentum! Every day is getting better and today was solid! (LOTS of fish moving throughout the day in decent numbers). It was not a massive wall of fish, but the most I have seen yet. Plus, we have very, very promising conditions in the forecast! Cooler weather and rain!
First King of the year!
We still have some prime dates available for guide trips. These dates are up for grabs to the first caller. We will be hardware or streamer fishing in the lower river for the next 2 weeks...which is the best salmon fishing of the year (in my opinion). If you have never experienced the smashing grab of a chrome king on a streamer or stick bait...give us a call...1-877-422-5394. Plus, we still have plenty of rooms and lodging available at the Motel (call shop for openings).
My open dates are: 9/6 – 7, 10/10 -12, 10/15 and then it opens up.
Steve's open dates are: 9/08, 10/10 – 12, 10/15 and then it opens up.
Kings have been our main focus right now and will continue to be for the next six weeks (until we switch to steelhead). Warm water temps and low water levels have made things tough thus far. But, I think our run has finally started! Too many tough days in August that I would rather not talk about…ha, ha. Those days are usually some of the best, but not this year.
We have been getting opportunities every day, but working hard for them. Hard work has been paying off and more fish in the system will certainly help the overall tone on the river. Enjoy yourselves and please respect other anglers…we are all out there for the same reason. Traffic has been low, but should increase significantly from this weekend on.
Here are a couple from today:
One of Dick’s from this morning
Another hot fish that found the net
Dick with a manageable jack king!
One more before we called it a day! Thanks Dick!!
Trout fishing has been decent during the day with terrestrials and nymphing. Hoppers, ants and rubber legged creatures have been generating most of the action, but mayfly emergers are still getting some attention. Bead heads and hopper/droppers rigs kill two birds with one stone. Plus, waking flies after dark is your best bet a large brown.
Steve and I had a great opportunity to assist the Michigan DNRE conducting their annual stream shocking survey on the PM. It was amazing how many quality fish are in the river…even to me. We should get the results soon and we’ll keep you posted. Plus, Steve has some very cool video footage of the event…it should be awesome! But here are some still shots to check out:
The shocking crew at work
The big fish of the area…23 inch brown!
Many, Many spots full of trout…these are just a few
