[CONTINUED FROM THE FRONT PAGE]
Wound up having a great day catching a wide variety of fish and enjoying the company. I’m sure that John will be sharing a bunch of his photos from our two weeks here when we get back, but in the mean time I pretty much just have a few of my shots for ya…
A nice Silver from Suday...
…and a bright Chum.
On Monday it was across the Lake to Brooks we went and had a blast once again. We requested Walt as our “guide” again and then forced him to fish the entire river with us! ;^) Everyone caught lots of Rainbows on streamers, dry flies and mice then afterward it was awesome to be able to enjoy a frothy beverage at the Bruin Lounge on the way out for the first time this summer since I was not captain.
Hard to take any photos since we were all well separated, but I did get a couple of shots. We caught lots of fish like the one in the second photo and lost a few monsters but the first shot was my best actually landed of the day.
A couple of Brooks Bows.
Monday night found a bunch of us out on the river in front of camp together in one of the larger boats where we caught a few more nice Rainbows once again, enjoyed some tunes and some great company.
Scooter with one of his better ones .
Some other memories...
On Tuesday we flew out to Contact Creek and were fortunate enough to have an extra seat in the plane so that we could take John the maintenance man with us for his very first fly out and a great day off. Caught tons of Char as usual, some very nice grayling, a few Chums, Rainbows and even had a nice King or two on.
Most of the crew stuck with the bead program catching untold numbers of fish, but John and I switched over to a regular mouse pattern and John’s new “flesh mouse” pattern. Couldn’t get a cast in most of the time without at least rolling several fish and would make contact more than enough to keep it on. Must have caught at least 20 or so Char on the mice, a few Rainbows and even a few of the larger Grayling.
John’s first of many fish…
…and one of my mice eating grayling.
Didn’t take many photos at all on Wednesday or Thursday, but had a blast both days and a bunch of adventure. Wednesday John, Scooter and I just took a camp boat out on our own for the day exploring parts of the river I haven’t fished much and a few I have. Caught fish, had fun, etc, etc…
Thursday we headed out to Brooks to drop off a few folks, then took the boat over to Margot where we caught some more Char. It was also one of the clients birthday so to celebrate we also had a few beers around a campfire and got home late…
A bear going around our “campsite”.
Friday found us back out on the Naknek with Walt once again and we topped off a great week with plenty of action from Silvers, Rainbows, Pinks, Char, Jack kings and even a Sockeye just to add a species to the list. Great day with a great bunch of guys!
One of the Pinks...
One of the Silvers...
…and one of the Rainbows.
In short, awesome week and we’re looking forward to another one with a little larger BBT group this week. Got to cut this short now and probably won’t post again until after my return on the 12th.
Tight lines All,
Steve
