Not much more to add to what I posted in my short report on Friday morning. Water is slightly out of its banks in a few places now, but appears to be holding pretty steady up this way as shown in these two photos I borrowed from Clint’s web cam today.
Caution advised as always in high(er) water, but if you’re familiar with the river in these conditions it’s pretty much perfect and should continue to hold some height/color for a while with some snow melt following…
Don’t need any more days starting at 1 degree, that’s for sure!
Mother nature has tossed us a curve ball for sure this spring, but I can’t complain too much having been out on the river guiding very steady since late February and finding fish to play with nearly every day, but the best of it was early March this year and it looks like we will have a very strong finish. The higher water has brought up new fish as well as bringing the ones that were already here out of the woodwork/undercuts and back into all the normal lies.
-2 degrees at the barn, 1 degree at the launch and still a great time!
See you next year guys!
The forecast, if you can believe it, actually looks pretty good compared to that of late starting from about Tuesday on and I’m open Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday as well as the 30th this month yet for anyone interested. (I was actually blocked off yesterday as usual, but had and have no desire to go out today or tomorrow… ;^) We have other guides open on many other days in April yet as well as Motel rooms so give the shop a call to check on dates and get in on the action… 231-745-3529
Fast Eddy (OK, just Ed. ;^) getting it done early with this nice drop back from a hole!
We found some indigenous species in the holes as well! Hehehe…
I’ve fished 26 springs in a row with this guy. (As well as many falls, a few summers and some destination trips! ;^) They actually had to pour me into the boat back in 2016, but I simply couldn’t break the streak that Paul and I have going…
If you’re looking to gain some good river/fishing karma (And possibly squeeze in some great fishing.) come join us for BBT’s annual Spring PM River Cleanup on Saturday the 21st! We will meet at the shop at 8am to try and sort out river beats, hand out trash bags and set up car spots for those of you floating. Plan on being around the shop for a little while as it is almost always a little like herding cats, but it is nice to get a full group photo before we all depart to do as much good as possible.
Some kind of shady pike streamer deal I caught in the barn the other day… ;^)
Your car spots, the trash bags and an appreciation party with dinner (At my barn starting at 7pm) are all on us as our way of saying thanks from us and the river! BYOB and feel free to bring a dish if you wish, but it’s really not necessary. Last minute participants are always welcome, but if you know you’re coming please let the shop know how many of you there will be for better dinner planning purposes… 231-745-3529 7am – 7pm
Heebs, Jeff and I had a drop back fest along with some hot new ones we lost on Thursday and Friday fishing darkwater.
We also had some great snacks as well as one heck of a hail storm on Friday that others enjoyed with us!
Repeats from the quick report Friday morning…
Anyway, that’s about all I’ve got for you right now. I had planned on going into one of my old school rants on a few subjects, but a couple of days rest has done me good and with the season nearing an end what’s the sense in stirring a pot. Treat others as you would wish to be treated and respect the other anglers out there no matter how or where they are fishing if it’s legal. Respect private property as well, be sure to have the proper required gear if floating and your fishing license on your person. Checking has been very regular as of late… Above all, have fun, that’s why we’re all out there!
Had to post this one more time also! Hehehehe...
Tight lines all,
