We are hosting our Spring River Clean-Up Saturday, May 26th. Please call the shop to notify us if you are planning on supporting this effort, so we can start figuring out a menu/headcount, etc. It is a great way to give something back to the resource we all love!
Hey folks, the annual blessing of the bikes is this weekend here in Baldwin and with the weather we are expecting it is shaping up to be some kind of a record breaker. If you dig bikes like I do it’s worth it to come up just for the show. I’ve got a bunch of buddies coming up for it so I have no time for a big report with so much to do before the weekend and a guide trip tomorrow, but I thought I’d toss up something!
Fishing here on the PM remains steady with some decent trout still moving on streamers, bugs in the evening and attractor type patterns bringing a few to the surface during the day.
Nymphing is producing as it almost always will, but I haven’t done much of it myself preferring other methods over more fish. Flat out however, if it’s a bend you absolutely need in the rod, a good run with a small nymph or two will most likely do the trick…
John and I have been out a few times since last report on our own and we both had the pleasure of the father and son team of Tom and Patrick for a couple of days of learning. We started out with a totally clean slate having never even held a fly rod on the water and by the end of the second day I would have to say they are well on their way into a new hobby. Thanks guys, it was great having you!
John and I also had the pleasure of participating in Project Healing Waters on the Muskegon this past Monday along with (I believe) 13 other volunteer boats. Between us we took close to 30 of our nations veterans out for an afternoon on the river and it was a great time!
Most of the vets had taken a fly fishing/tying course and were in various stages of development. Some went, with our blessings, over to the spinning side of things to put a few more bends in the rods at various stages, but my guys stuck to it and while we didn’t tear ‘em up, we did get into ‘em and I was happy to watch the casting skills develop throughout the day.
Mark and Tom, I (as well as everyone else I’m sure) thank you for your service and it was not only a pleasure, but also a privilege to have you in my boat for the day. To Tim May and all the others that made this happen, my hat is off to you and thank you as well!
Got to cut this short now and get some things done…
Tight lines all,
Steve
