Thought I’d go ahead and toss up a new report while I’ve got a chance here. Not much happening over the weekend with the water all blow out like it was, but we had some decent days leading up to it and, even though the gauge in Scottville still shows the water on the rise, it is in pretty good shape up here (Fly water) this morning already. As always, the further down you go, the longer it takes to recover…
Probably won’t get another post up before next weekend so I just wanted to remind you all to call your Mom if you must or hug & kiss her if you can! You only get one and she should be cherished…
After posting my report on the 1st John, Jory and I hit the water for an afternoon trip. Nothing huge to hand, but we moved a few good ones and caught a bunch of healthy Browns ranging into the teens on smaller streamers as well as bringing a few to the surface. In short, we had a blast!
Here’s a few of the ones we took quick snap shots of…
On the 2nd we went out again and did much of the same! Again, just a few of the photos… (John has some others and we don’t snap all of them. ;^)
On the 3rd the rains had showed up overnight and continued throughout the day. John and I decided to brave it for a very quick trip and see if finally having some color to the water would help with some bigger fish. We did move some larger ones as well as rolling a TON of fish we didn’t connect on and some others that shook the hook…
There were times we couldn’t see more than a few yards in front of the boat it rained so hard (I think we hand bilged the boat three times during out three hour float.) and I’m sure we moved others we never saw. All in all it worked out great with each of us bringing a couple to hand while giving our rain gear a good wash!
Here’s a couple of ‘em….
That night a plan was hatched to go out again the next day only with our buddy Hugh this time who was coming down from up north. In the morning we found the water out of its banks in places and still fast on the rise, but that was no deterrent for us since this trip was more about catching up with each other and having a relaxing day.
Knowing that the river would only continue to rise for a day or two and get muddier, I did however, have the guys at the shop call my guide trips for the weekend and give them the chance to re-schedule or back out citing that we may or may not move and/or catch some big boys on large streamers, but it wouldn’t be the trip they most likely had in mind. (Relaxing sunny day with shots at fish on dry flies etc…)
I must say that the morning action was pretty darn good! We not only rolled and pricked a bunch of nice fish on various patterns, but we also brought a few to hand before the sand and mud plumes shut it down in the afternoon… Let’s do it again soon Hugh!
Hugh brought the first to hand!
I finally got one out of “that spot” right after stating “Today is the day John!”
And this fish was a lot of fun!
Not much else to report here really. I’m hoping to get out there again sometime today and both John and I still have plenty of openings for anyone who might like to join us. Alaska if fast approaching for me and I hope to get in some great trout trips before going north this year.
Speaking of Alaska… What gives? We still have a bunch of openings for this summer’s trip and it is bar none the best value out there!! If you’ve ever wanted to go and have been putting it off, stop that! It won’t get any cheaper and you won’t get younger. Why not go enjoy it while you can? Details, as always, below…
