PM River Clean Up! Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Sorry for the late notice and if this doesn’t work out for anyone, but we’ve got a lot going on this spring and this was the only possible day for both John and I to attend… Details to follow but please call the shop to let them know how many in your party will attend ahead of time so that we can plan for the after party at my place accordingly! We hope a bunch of you can make it…

Broke in my brand new Sage One rod with this fatty! What a great way to start it’s guiding career… ;^)

It’s trout time around here folks and we are excited to say the least! We haven’t hooked up with very many of the true pigs just yet, but we’ve moved and located a good number of them that we’ll be working on and, we have been catching lots of the wild healthy specimens with genetics that date back to the first ever plant in the US that the PM is famous for!

We cherish each and every one of these beauties!

John and I managed to take Steve from Barski’s out for his first ever streamer trip and he did a great job! Not only did he put a couple in the hand, but he also moved some large boys and lost a 20+” to some wood where I wound up going in over my waders trying to save it!!! That was awesome man, right on…

Next step, dry flies, and then you can make that instructional video! ;^)

The water has been low and clear and smaller streamers are moving more fish. The difference between moving a lot or moving a little has been a matter of inches. You either hit that cover or you are just short. Big flies will of course still move big fish, but you’d better be on your game…

This little bead head olive bugger has been a great one for me as you can see by a few of the quick hand shots we’ve taken.

With the warm up this week we should start to see even more dry fly activity, but it hasn’t been bad already given the right place and time. We’ve been seeing some Hennies yet along with some Black Quills, Black Caddis, Stones and BWOs to name a few.

John certainly knows how to do it enjoying a fair portion of the day with his wife Heather on the sticks! (What the @$&%, I wound up with Charlie then Jory! He, he, he…)

To close this out in short, both John and I have plenty of open dates yet this spring to fill and the trout are ready! Why not come enjoy a relaxing (Or intense, your pick!) day of fishing on the Pere Marquette with us, we’d love to have you and you are certain to come away with a new appreciation of our fishery as well as some new knowledge! Give the shop and call – 1-231-745-3529 or 1-877-422-5394

Thanks for a great spring thus far! I hope to see many of you either in my boat, (preferably!) around the shop, at the Motel or on the river before departing for Alaska in late June.

Tight lines all,
Steve
