Over the last ten days we have experienced two high water events. These are important events at this time of year to bring in fall and winter steelhead. Plus, this will flush out all the old salmon, carcasses and loose eggs. Once the water levels drop/clear we will have more to report. The water levels crested yesterday and are dropping now. We are forecasted for more rain, but the river should be in good shape by tomorrow for boaters and Wednesday or Thursday for wading.
Fall Steelhead fishing is here!
I have not had much to report lately, so I took a little post-salmon season break to take care of some non-fishing things. But now that I have those done, it’s time for Fall steelheading! We are on the front end of some awesome fishing. If you have never experienced a chrome cart-wheeling, tail dancing steelhead on the end of your line…give us a call…1-877-422-5394. Steve and I have some great open dates over the next couple months. We deploy several techniques during this time of year…bottom bouncing, floating line with indicators and (my personal favorite) streamers! Plus, we cater to every skill level…from very experienced anglers to beginners trying to learn the ropes. You are all welcome and will most likely walk away with some new knowledge or perspective.
Good flies at this time of year are clown eggs, orange estaz nukes, OC glow bugs and natural nymphs like green caddis, hexes, flash-back pheasant tails and soft hackled hare’s ears. Streamer fishing is going to be awesome the next couple weeks…large natural colors will get the most attention. Black, Olive, tan and lots of flash would be where I would start.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in our Fall River Clean-up. Conditions were not ideal, but we made the most of it and picked up a ton of trash. Every little bit counts and improves our beautiful resource. Thanks for keeping our incredible river clean!
