We still have some great openings for guide trips and at the Motel (please contact the shop for Motel availability). Our guide trip dates start opening up after October 12th. We should have plenty of great salmon fishing in mid-October with this year’s run being late, plus we will start looking for steelhead at that time. Prime dates that are up for grabs to the first caller! Give us a call...1-877-422-5394.
Fishing has been very good lately. We have seen a nice push of fish from the rain and increased water level. Many fish swam upstream without stopping in pools during those conditions, but we have been finding them in secondary runs and dark water near gravel.
Salmon season is still in full swing up here!
Water levels are fine in the upper sections, but the middle and lower river are still holding a nice stain. Everything is wadable and the fish are throughout the system. The highest concentration of fish is near gravel. Tons of fish are spawning, but there are plenty staging and waiting. The trout bite is turning on and we have seen a couple steelhead on our lines over the last week. This weather is setting us up for a great fall for steelhead fishing.
Good flies for kings have been: Psycho stones, Purple speys, flashy fry patterns, egg sucking leeches, cream nuke eggs, orange glow bugs and of course chartreuse nukes. On the trout front smaller more nature flies like eggs, eggs and more eggs with lighter tippet. The streamer fishing for brown was good in the higher/stained water level too.
Here are some photos from the last week of trips. I do not have time to post a blow by blow report, plus I am feeling under the weather. The colors are great up here right now and the fishing is still going strong. What a great time…gotta love this time of year in northern Michigan!!!
