I'm planning on trying to fish for bass this summer, and being a fly tier i'm going to tie my own flys to do this. I'm looking for some suggestions on good flys to use for this and some basic instructions on how to tie them. Im also open to suggestions on materials to get for this (im going to buy new materials for trout flies anyway)speaking of trout flies, feel free to throw in any new patterns you come up with (not like wooly buggers and pmd. i already fish for trout). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've heard this called a popcycle stick and a wobbler but it is killer regardless of name. I've caught smallies, pans, large mouths, trout, and salmon with it.
#8/#10 are my fav. hook sizes.
Tie a small (.025) piece of lead on the top side of the shank to make the hook ride high when stripping. Slow, steady jerks to let it drop to the bottom to imitate feeding or fast strips in current. Bass usually will hit it on the drop.
Tie in marabou tail ( white is my favorite) and some Ice Chennille. Wrap the chennille towards the eye (use plenty) and tie off and whip finish. Then... cut the chenille off the top and bottom of the fly really short. (this is how the wobble effect is created / and where the popcycle shape comes from) I prefer to use red thread. I like the red head, plus when this fly becomes saturated it kinda gives off a blood line to it.
Other colors I like are olive, black, and purple. Just match the chenille to whatever marabou color you decide to use.

But they have Foam popper kits. Add color and paint to what ever you want.

If ya wanna get real crafty I would by some balsa wood and carve my own poppers. Deer hair mice work like a charm especially in the morning/ evening but found they do work mid day.

the cooper bub or tappy bug whatever you call it, small sizes are great for trout, and if you tie them in the #2-4 range with spun deerhair as the body and bucktail as the shellback works great for bass/pike in the pond by our house, i like black body with yellow or green bucktail, or white body with red bucktail works great

I will proably end up using some of my salmon flys on a slow day. I'v been looking at vareous types of spinning lures to make a fly similar to them. I'm also wondering if a wolly bugger heavily weighted with a long tail might work like a plastic worm (letting it sink to the bottom and jigging it up). I am also wondering about flesh flies, maribu posicles(like the ones used in alaska), and the streamers I have for fishing trout with a sinking line(I foggot the names their made with lead eyes and black rabbit strips). I also have foampopper heads and i'm looking for some patterns any imput will again be appreciated.

Wolly buggers will work great for bass. Flesh flies I'm not sure about? There made to look like the flesh of a salmon so I'm sure most large mouths haven't seen that, but they may strike out of curiosity or think it's a bait fish. And most streamers I'm sure will work.

Clouser. Chartreuse on yellow with gold flash, red/black lead eyes. I fish this fly 90% of the time when I'm fishing below the surface. I've had 30+ bass days on one fly alone.
