Winter Guide Special - Get a free night’s lodging with any full day trip or, a full day rate of $295. (The half day special rate is simply $195 without lodging). This offer is good thru March 1st! We hope you will join us and take advantage of this great deal!!

We have decided to extend our winter gift certificate special, so we hope you take advantage of this offer! Now until March 1st all gift certificates purchased are 15% off (any amount)! These gift certificates are good for lodging at the Motel BBT or any of our store merchandise, but not for guided trips. (Certificates that were purchased between 12/13/2010 and 12/25/2010 are still good for guide trips).

Steelhead fishing improved before the holidays and was really good during our melt/warm-up. Egg flies were the ticket (small & large clowns, orange estaz eggs and anything chartreuse), but we have been having luck with nymphs too (wiggle hexes, sparrows, stones and hare’s ears). Do not be afraid of changing flies and work the runs/pools thoroughly before trying new water. Streamer fishing will remain good, but slower strips or swinging will generate better results. Leeches in Black, purple or olive will get you some tugs. The bump in water last week shuffled the fish and many fish released out of the lower river. There are plenty of steelies throughout the system to target. Currently, there is no shelf ice or anchor ice in the upper or middle river. Please exercise extreme caution while launching and retrieving boats at the launches.

Look for fish in the soft seams and winter lies. Grid out the pools and runs…do not forget to start in close and work your way across the river. Make every cast count and presentation is extremely important at this time of year. Please come up and join us for a full or half day on the water…we know where the fish are and the heaters are rigged up in the boats.

We are in winter mode up here now…The shop hours are now 9:00am to 5:00pm everyday (closed on Tuesdays). You may want to secure your spring steelhead guide dates now while there are still some good ones left...1-877-422-5394.

Thats a sweet looking Fly box for Argentina John! Ever since you posted the Leprechaun (sp?) last year I did a smaller version and did well on trout this year after I learned technique from Steve and I"ve done nothing but tie streamers ever since. Have fun on those big boys down south!

Next time I see John I think I might have to bop him on the head and jack his fly boxes:D Because those two streamer boxes would get me through the next 3 years of not having to tie another streamer, they all look like streamers I use on the Au Sable. Great looking boxes John.

I hate to be the one to break it to you guys but... That is nothing compared to what he actually tied and brought down to the boys. (A few of the guest and all of the guides) I'm talkin' four or five one gallon zip lock bags filled to the hilt!

You give John a couple of tasty ale treats and a good glass of scotch and he will go to town at the bench!! ;)

What you have to be careful of (not that I have actually had this happen:D ) is - when John is finished tying, he doesn't start using the flies as earrings!
