I've been asked by someone on the west coast how the steelhead fishing is mid to late may. Any steelhead left on the PM or the Manistee at that time?

usually. Or the Au Sable. Many years, there are early summer runs at the St. Joe, which is some of the best fishing of the year if you're into swinging big stuff on sinktips.

skaminia are usually in the system by june or early july, they are a ton of fun to hookup with when your trout fishing with an ultralight 5 foot rod and 4 pound test.

You run down the river until you get to deep water, hoping you end up with enuff line left to to keep fishing. Was spin fishing the lower PM on leave from the Army in 92. Caught some nice browns, until these sharks started chasing the bait out of the hole. Wasn't expecting them back then. Turned out to be a good vacation.

lol, yep, been there done that. What fun. I did that while floating with mondrella (steve). I was using a 5' UL rod with 4# Maxima, and a crawler. The result was a nice skamaina, in my hands

The PM usually has a few steelies around all year coming and going in the river. The later you get from the prime run the more you need to know where they hang out as the temps start to climb.
I remember that trip with Flyrod4steelhead. It was July and there where a few fish caught that day. Dale's steel being the best. I also popped a very small skam of 18" or so that was tight with eggs.
Dale sometime when I have a free weekend we will have to hit the river again.

Sure thing Steve. I will be heading up to the cabin withing a week or two to spend some time with me dad, older brother and younger brother who should be home tomorow, hopefully. But yeah, let's do it. " Maybe " :D take me to a few of your " secret little rivers " that you talk about :D
