I am still trying to learn some techniques and was wondering if anyone would explain how to use an indicator fly.

So, you want to have a nice, bushy dry fly as your indicator. Then,Simply tie on about 12-18 inches of extra tippet to the bend of the dry fly hook, and then put on a smaller fly (usually a nymph)that is kind of slender in profile. Longer distances between the dry and the nymph will increase the chances of currents taking over that section of line; and make it more difficult for the dry to stay on top. A cl***ic, do all combo would be a size 14 stimulator and a size 16 pheasant tail behind it. Elk hair caddis works well too. Its fun to see which fly gets the hits on a given day.
