Hey guys I'm tying up a bunch of flies for salmon in a few weeks. I have some money into the hooks so before I open all the packages I wanna make sure they will be strong enough.
For egg hook I have the Tiemco 2457. These seem strong. I think i saw them recommended as strong enough.
I'm using teimco 300 for streamers and zonker stuff. they are listed as 'heavy wire'.
I've also got some teimco 7989. These seem the thinnest out of all. Not sure these will work.
Last but not least I've got some gamakatsu Saltwater series sl11-3h. If these break, the fish needs a trophy.
and I have some gama B10S hooks. They don't seem too bad.
Anybody have any thoughts on these hooks and whether they are strong enough to pull the fish out of the depths?
Thanks much.
It looks like I'll be up in MI with everybody else, first week of OCt.

Hey, I've used those Tiemco 2457 on green kings and bright steelies (usually tied as an olive scud) and busted 'em lots of times. The trick is what leader you're using. 6-pound leader will save those hooks, but of course you may not bring any fresh kings to the net! Those other dad-burned hooks are all plenty strong.

I mostly use scud, egg and different types of nymph hooks. I tend to make sure they have at least a 2x wire. You can use lite wire hooks but they wont last as long.

I use Daiichi X-Point hooks for all of my eggs, caddis, etc.. never lost a fish to the hook. Nice and strong!

Only way I see those breaking up is on a foul hook in which case it don't matter.

I use TMC 2457's for my green caddis and egg patterns, and have never had one break on a King. They are definetly one of my favorites. The only hook I like better ( for the same flies ) is a Daiichi 1120.

I was just up on the SB this weekend and was inspired by the local tackle shop/gas station/deli/grocery/convenience store to tie a new salmon pattern on the 10/0 treble hook they stock. I'm calling it the "South Branch Sedeucer". I'll post pics soon!

I ordered some mustad 36890's from Brandon this weekend and I recieved them today. Sweet hooks, tying up as many as I can before next week.
You wouldn't be able to use the treble hook fly in a fly zone only I don't think?

Did they sell you on a new shark pole too? Gotta love a 6' spinning setup that is as fat as a Louiville Slugger.
