1) Big net with short handle that I picked up from BBT a few seasons ago. It's a light enough net to be used with a D-ring on a vest when wading also.
2) Forget net and with someone - tail fish.
3) Forget net, by myself or or lose it (3 now  ) I beach them.

I say harpon. Stick em with that and their not going any where. It also acts as a defence for off their rocker bears, and could come in handy as self defence if you decide to fly fish in the wrong crowd.(been there done that and learned, if you hear rocks being launched in the water there not rocks their "dry flies")

Since chances are very high that the fish you catch will have assorted hooks in their fins I would go with a net. If you 'beach' them and hear a loud gunshot sound chances are you snapped your rod in half !!!!

Yupp same here. Net is always best...and if you do have to tail them, look for flies in the tail first because I've seen some dudes get some pretty nasty wounds tring to tail a fish with some flies stuck in him:eek:

Why are so many flies stuck in the sides, fins, and tails of these fish? I thought you set the hook when you feel a tug. ;)

The fish tugged my line with her tail, so i tugged her backwards upstream, double fly in her @** and my line broke. What can I do?
Net 100% of the time im fishing anything over 12". Unless I forget it in the car.

I saw one guy "tail" a salmon a few years ago...picture having a twenty pound salmon suspended from the fleshy part of your hand behind your little finger-- flipping and fighting the whole time --by a large treble hook. This individual was NOT pleased, as evidenced by his screaming little a small girl being abused by invading Mongols. NOW, you drop the fish back in the water and it's STILL trying to get away, so you continue screaming in pain while logically trying to evaluate whether it is in your best interest to try to remove said treble hook from chinook FIRST, or remove ever-deeper-embedding-now-starting-to-stab-into-metacarpal-bones hook while fish violently resents all such activity. Hook mercifully tears out chunk of fisherman's skin and rips out with peeved fish...fishman's trip is cut short due to gaping, hemorrhaging wound on hand.
Yes, I now only net fish...but you do what you feel is best!
