Been looking to tie some flies for Skamania this summer. Ive heard that a lot of the standards (woolly buggers, stones, etc) are all good. Wondering more about other stuff like rabbit strip leeches and other salmon patterns. Ive heard chartruese is a solid color. Any recommendations on some not so standard flies?

Black and purple rabbit leeches, a lot of flash, and the skamania bunny has been a good one for me the times that I have fished for skamania's. Matt Supinski does a good job talking about Skamania fishing in his book Steelhead Dreams, it was what I used as a guideline when I started.

When they are fresh in from the lake, anything with orange is hard to beat… I like Orange marabou spey flies…

Orange marabous, speys, tubes, and try black and purple as mentioned above. White streamers also

Supinskis book has many patterns and tips on fishing them, good place to start. Timing is everything though as these fish tend to move fast until the warm water temps kick in. Then they will hold in colder flows but its when I stop fishing them for the most part.

Ive seen that steelhead dreams book at a buddys house. Will have to take another look at it. Thanks for the other tips.
