Spent last week on the PM and left Saturday morning. Mostly fished below Gleason's. Fishing was OK, not really great most of the week...some fish trickling through, but less than in the past several years. Got up Friday and hit the river in drizzle-to-downpour all day. Morning was same as before, but just before noon, WOW!!!! The river started going up noticeably (it went up about a foot over the course of the day) and around noon the kings were just coming up in DROVES!!!! They were extremely fresh with lots of energy and hitting on just about every drift. Landed a big male who actually came to the surface, nailed the egg and hook, and flew out of the water like a trout rising to a dry fly. Just fantastic. An older guy I've been bringing up for four years (and who has never landed a king) had fish on all afternoon and finally landed a fat female who hit his spawn (of course we let her go). Plus, we only saw two other guys all day, and they only stayed for about an hour...I think the rain scared them off.
