Got an invite from a friend from class to fish out of his boat this mournin. I couldnt resist the offer and for once the weather actually was nice.

My friend joe from school also joined us so we would run 9 rods. Joe was a rookie to salmon fishing and has never caught one. We were on the water by about 6:30 and right after the second line was set it sprang to action. Jim, owner of the boat, grab the rod and handed it off to Joe. After some instructions and patients Joe landed his first coho salmon which put up an excellent fight. The fish hit a green hootchie mama with a greenish fly 125 feet down. This lure at this depth would take many more beatings today.

Next was my turn and waited. Several minutes after lines were set I was into my first fish. It was a smallish fish of about 6 lb but put up a decent fight.

Then the sun came up!

After that joe and I had many problems landing fish. We lost the next 3 due to rookie errors. Joe was pumping the rod and then giving the fish to much slack. I lost 2 screamers, who knows why though.

Now heres the funny part. So were sitting, sitting, hadnt taken a hit in awhile. Then Jim yells, fish on so I jump up and no rods are bent over. I turn around and Jim is laughing sooo hard. HahaNOT!!! Lol

Finally the green hootchie sprang to action and again jim screamed and I saw the rod straight up and set the hook and was into a screamer. This fish wanted nothing to do with me and pulled out 100 yards right away. Then it was cat and mouse game but finally victory was mine and I had my second fish in the cooler.

After that the action pretty much died.

We had a few hits on the dipsys but when we realed them in they wouldnt be knockoff and there would be no fish yet you could see a fish slam it. The second one went extremely slack, I grabbed the line and started cranking and then it let out a scream and then I handed it to joe. Joe then reeled it in and there was nothing on it yet the dipsys never sprangweird?

That was about all for the day. We switched and washed some lures but never hit another fish.

Back at the cleaning station I ran into my friend Dustin(aka rat fink) and they had a nice day. We will probably also be fishing tonight for some nighttime kings.

What a great day on the lake!
