I've rented a place the third week in Augest on Lake Charlavoix near Boyne. I'm looking to do as much fishing as possible and still stay married(a fine line). I've fished the Jordan before with good success, does anyone else have suggestions for me. I would say anything within an hour is fair game. I guess I should also say that I prefer trout, but bass would be fine too. Third week in August are they catching anything from the piers yet? Thanks for the help.

The mouth of the Bear right in Petoskey, either from the pier or up near the mouth, there's a beach in that area might be OK for Steelhead / Salmon.

The Boyne River below the Boyne Dam, off of Dam road is a common place for Salmon fishing, it might be too early though. It also gets very congested in that area as the season heats up, I've only enjoyed fishing in that area in waders. The pile of people at the access areas is incredible.

You might find some good fishing on the Sturgeon River near Wolverine. There are some road side parks off of 27 that might be a nice place to bring the wife for lunch on a road tour, and do a little fishing.

Adventurous, you could head over towards Gaylord and there are some access areas to the head waters of the Manistee River, South West of Gaylord that might be in that 1 hour drive zone too.

The Platte and Betsie are more than 1 hour away.

Ide go after walleye and pike in Lake Charlevoix. The Jordan is a nice river...but sounds like youve already done that. Heck, check out a big lake charter for salmon.

I fished the Boyne as mentioned July 15-30th 2006, from Dam Rd. Both ways ( to the Dam and downstream). Boyne Resorts groom the trails along the river.. Fairly good luck fishing log jams and holes. 10"-14'' browns, a couple of rainbow. Run into a fly fishing school from Boyne Mt. resort one morning, other than . Seen kids pull trout from river in town. A nice wade.
Sturgeon is cold and fast. Also gets canoe traffic midday. Good luck. wanted to fish the Jordan, had issues with family balance, and making afternoon tee times. Nice area of the state. Enjoy. DWR:)
