I fished with John this spring, I did not get the pattern on how to tie it.
I can only tell you to have a good grip on your rod while its on the swing.

Recipe:
Hook - TMC 2457 #8
Tie two Tan Mini Grizzly Marabou feathers for the tail (tie them in long), next tie in large black plastic eyes, then beginning dubbing the body with Hare's Ear Crystal SLF dubbing (dub from tail to just short of the eyes), then add some Pearl crystal flash, then palmer a tan mini grizzly marabou feather behind the eyes (tie in tip first), then dub behind and figure eight around the eyes with Fl. Orange SLF dubbing, whip finish and go fishing! You can also finish the head with the Hare's Ear SLF Dubbing too...either way.

I'm pretty sure that a step by step is on Kevin Feenstras website.

In this pic, that looks like crystal ice dub on the body and mallard palmered by the eyes, no? Now, how much variation to this basic pattern would you recommend? Maybe some ice dubbed and some hares ear dubbed one? Multi colored crystal flash on the back? Just kind of thinking out loud... any ideas?

what i am doing with mine is

tying in some tan barred marabou for a tail, but dont trim the rest of it yet, then dubbing with some tan nymph dub for the body. taking the rest of the bou tail and palmering it forward. you may have to tie in a second bou feather but make sure you dub under it too. then just behind the eyes, i am taking an orange ice dub and dubbing behind and around the eyes and tying of just behind the hook eye.

looks good, hopefully the fish like it too.

Yes, yes, and yes! I've added a glow in the dark bead for low light or dark water. Play with the pattern but Bears Crossdresser is a fast ty and has worked as is. They boys said it worked for them last week. Sorry about the late post but I have been working too much!

Here is what I came up with last night... I think it needs something along the back. I am thinking that the crystal flash over top the dubbing the length of the back but am not sure.

Suggestions?

A few strands of peacock herl works well. Tie them in at the bend of the hook, pull them forward over the eyes, and tie them down.
