Any interest in a trout swap?!?!?! Not long at all until the Michigan opener, and it would be nice to see what works for you guys! It can be anything from streamers, to dries, to nymphs and everything in between!!!!

Flies must be sent in a crush proof container and come with pre paid envelop to get the flies back. There will be a maximum of 15 tiers. Due date will be April 9th, meaning all flies must be in my hands by then!!!

Very funny Mark:)

I figured you got hundreds of flies to tie and you'll probably pass on this one, glad to be wrong in this case. With all this tying you are going through, you'll soon wear out your vise. How many flies did you say you are tying for that trip?

Well, I just finished reading a very good article from the designer of Klinkhĺmer (also just learned that I was calling it wrong for some time now, as many do) and since I can't pronounce Klinkhĺmer, I'll keep calling it klinkhammer :) .
If that's OK with everyone, I'll tie that.

Roman

Oh, I don't have anymore hooks I was gonna use, so do you guys mind if I use a barbless hook for that (same kind though)?

ronc23

Roman,

could you let me know which type of hackle you use to tie the wing. I have tried to tie this fly and have not been happy with the end product.

thanks

This week alone I've tied over 200 flies getting ready for my steelhead trips. I looked at my dry flies and I have a some Oliver Edwards style BWO that worked great for me last year but Scott is all over that already. Being new to the Swap is it ok to have two of the same flies? If not, I will tie any fly, dry or nymph. U pick Alex.

Let me know,

Dallas

I'm good with that too. Mine are a little different anyway.

Thread & hook: Olive 8/0, size 14-16 dry fly hook

Tail: 2 or 3 grey micro-fibettes

Body: BWO goose biot

Thorax: Olive_brown Ice Dub

Wings/Legs: Grey (dun) hackle

I haven't been tying all that long so it would be great to get a look at someone else's version. Bonus!!!

Mine will be in the mail this weekend.

Well...what does $150 in gas, $70 in lodging, another $70 or so in food and drink then, add a beautiful day, 3 inches of rain the previous day, and a bunch of snow melt? No fishing and a great day to explore Western Michigan.

http://www.fishingporn.com/blog_images/lulu_boat.jpg

My buddy and I ran up to the PM thinking we would float M-37 to Gleasons. We walked in above Green Cottage only to find the river blown out. We knew it would be high, but had no idea it would be that blown out. We hiked out and figured a nights sleep and 8 hours would help the waters to drop.

Drove to M-37 and found the river had risen even more! So, after figuring we wouldn't be able to get Lulu's drift boat under the bridge (seriously, it was that high). Here is a photo of M-37...notice the 4x4 post sticking out of the water...there are 3 more that SHOULD be sticking out of the water by a foot or more.

http://www.fishingporn.com/blog_images/m37.jpg

We drove down to Oswego to see how the Muskegon was...not too bad but still chocolate milk and running fast. After talking to a local guy at the bait shop, he recommended checking out the White River in Hesperia - specifically the dam. We drove, found the town, found the dam and found about 30 local fisherman pitching bait, spawn, flies and whatever else. It was packed elbows to assholes. Crazy. So we drove downriver, checked a few spots out. For those who haven't checked out the White River, really a nice river. Again, it was also blasted out but we are seriously thinking about floating it. It had some nice runs and looked alot like the Pere Marquette.

We left Hesperia and the White River to hit Ludington and the Pier to see what fresh steelies were being caught. Not too much action that we saw, but had a great time and the weather was amazing. A last ditch effort was to drop my drift boat into the breakwater and fish the mouth of the Pere Marquette. After getting some info from the local DNR officer and finally going to the Coast Guard Office, we found we needed to have not jsut seat cushions but needed life jackets as it was considered Federal waters and not State waters. FYI for anyone. Check with the coastguard. I guess they can plug you with a fine pretty easily.

So after that part of the non-fishing adventure we figured we'd do a full circle and run across US-10 to Custer to check out the Weir. Pulled up and all was quite.

http://www.fishingporn.com/blog_images/weir1.jpg

As soon as we pulled out the digital cameras to take some photos and such (mine looks like a video camera) the guys turned the pumps on. Not sure if it was a coincidence as our idea was that it was suppose to run non-stop. Needless to say there were a BUNCH of fish stacked up below. Once the pumps came online several fish entered the weir. We watched for about 10-15 minutes and only saw 1 steelie and 2 suckers actually make it through. We saw many fish in the ladder system, but it really seems like they were having trouble getting up the flow. Just our amateur opinion.

http://www.fishingporn.com/blog_images/weir2.jpg

I am still not sold on the whole wier thing, but it is an interesting system. We have checked it out a couple of times each years since it has been in operation. For anyone who hasn't checked it out, it's worth the time to go see what the fuss it all about. The employees have been generally helpful and pleasant at the wier. One guy actually took us on a tour.

Welp, I guess that about wraps up our expensive non-fishing trip to the PM. It was a good time just wish we could've dunked a few flies safely.

Thanks for the pix..can't believe the water was that high! I heard some guy got pulled out of his boat at green cottage last week. I guess he overshot the takeout and grabbed onto the tree that hangs over the river. From what I heard 2 guys happened to be there to pull him out, otherwise I think it would have ended differently.

Streamer fishing??? Fishing PERIOD !!! (I love streamers) Spring so far has been too busy to get out. Hopefully I can play in our local river down here alittle bit first to get the rust off the wrist. Not that white bass are good eaters but they are fun to catch on a 2wt. and since the river is about a mile away I have no excuse. Once in awhile a steelie or walleye gets lost and ends up in the river as well.

................oh well, as long as mine get there before Romans.:D LOL

 Well Mark, now I am glad I did not say that mine will be there first because you must have turned into a tying machine with all that practice you are getting and there is no way I am gonna compete with you now :).
I bet you tie a fly every 30 seconds now and are making some big money selling flies on e-bay ;) .

I did however say, that mine won't be last this time and they won't cause they are in the mail as I type :D .

Hey Alex, I was gonna tie a few extra and didn't. Sorry man, I'll just give you some when we meet to fish this summer, oh, and don't send one of mine back. Just keep at least that one extra.

Thanks

Roman

Those deer hair mice still take me about 25 minutes each to tie and believe me they don't bring in much money on E-Bay, but they do fetch a few dollars here and there which takes the sting out of some of the gear I have been having to buy for.........................MY TRIP TO ALASKA............in July.:) :)

Dang, I was all set to rib Roman about being last again................but they havn't made it there yet............theres still hope:D

I am sure it is still way faster than those first ones. You must be really getting good at it now with that much tying. I know I should tie more to get better at it but I just don't tie as much as I need to.

Oh, and about your trip, there is a little envy but I am truly happy for you. You enjoy it, scout it out for us and when you get back you can pm me a list of the best holes up there :D

I think I saw you this morning on I 94, but I was doing about 73 so it could have been someone who just looks like you. :)

Alex make sure you check your mailbox tomorrow, if they are not there I'll file a formal complaint with the postal service ;)

Poor Roman, one set of flys late and a lifetime or ribbing.:D

Thats OK Roman, the titled is going to be claimed by somebody else........just depends on who gets there last.:)

04-10-2007, 07:43 PM
Neeso1aj, what are you doing to me man???? :) Look what you did. Now you made and award out of that. Well, thanks alot ;)

Hey Mark, somebody else claiming the award does not help me much unless it gets renamed and I kinda doubt that you guys would let that happen

I guess it's ok, this is probably my only chance to be somehow famous anyhow :)

I can't wait to see who "wins" the award :D

Neeso1aj
04-11-2007, 01:15 PM
I do that all the time. if you name an award after someone they usually wolnt do that something again. Im in a fraternity and if someone dosnt pay there dues and we have to do a fundrasier to make money we name it after them. People pay their dues pretty quick then. Sorry it had to be you. the way it looks im going to get the award for the skam swap. schools about kicking my *** right now.

A Snow Day......I remember when I was a kid, when there was too much snow for the bus, we walked to shool, 5 miles, waist deep snow, uphill both ways.:D

Slept in till 1:30............when I was kid we had chores........school days got up 3:00 am to milk the cows, gather eggs, slop the pigs.:)

Lets see.............all the flys are there and Alex missed the Mailman.

Used to be called a Roman Award, then it became the Ronc23................not sure but it may now be the Alex Award.............or Late AA for Short.:p

Good looking bunch of flys..........they will be making the trip to Alaska.

Alex,
If you're gonna TELL people you slept in until 1:30pm, next time you better follow that up with "because I was mousin' all night on the PM" ;)

2PAWS: I never "slopped the hogs or "gathered eggs" but I know all about going to school smelling like a dairy cow ! (needless to say, the girls DON'T dig it !! ):(

Sleeping till 1:30  , I don't think I've ever slept till after lunch :D

Sorry Alex, couldn't help it.

A far as sharing certain things with public, you should follow the famous "tripple S" from our hunting vocabulary. You know, "shoot, shovel, shut up". That can be modified for other things not just hunting.;)

It's all good Alex. We all get picked on once in a while. Go to bed early so you can mail the flies tomorrow. :)

Though I've never been up for the steelie run I have had luck with the wobbler on all species. These work great for trout, bass, pans, and even had a salmon take one last year ! One guy in our group last year tied these in olive and purple and that's all he used for the salmon run. It's by far my "go to" when nothing else seems to be working.
