 Got a very disturbing phone call last night. Back in Feb we rented two cabins on the fly fishing section of the PM for the third week in September. We rented them from a private owner. I got a call last night that the cabins could NOT be rented due to a crackdown from local zoning on renting cabins! As the trip organizer this caused me a GREAT deal of grief. I have ten guys coming and I handled all of the arrangements. One of the guys coming had bought a non-refundable airline ticket from Africa another has reserved airfare from California. Many of the guys had scheduled their vacation far in advance! We were extemelly lucky and I found us a couple of more cabins to rent. So its not all that bad for our group. It is unfortunate that some of the other owners of Cabin who had taken deposits and now can't rent them now may be faced with law suits from angry renters.
I think it is a VERY sad statement of the local government in Baldwin to let such a thing happen at the last minute before the Salmon season!!!! I even understand a State Represenitive was at the meeting. I can see where rules and regulations on the rental of ones private personal property may be neccessary but I think a agrement should have been worked out so as to not disrupt peoples vacation plans at the last minute. I think in this situation local zoning has bitten the hand that feeds it!!!! Isn't Baldwin very dependent on tourism money ?? Perhaps they should have waited till after the Salmon season to have their little crackdown. I wonder what the local Tackle Shops, stores and resteraunts think about this last minute crackdown and its effects on tourism? It has definatly soured my group's opinion of the areas local government.
I GIVE A BIG TWO THUMBS DOWN TO THE BALDWIN ZONING COMMISSION!!!
