Just curious how people from around the state did this year.
In four hunts I shot four. We put up a lot less birds this year compared to other years. Although, we did put up a LOT of Woodcock. More than I have seen in a long long time here in central Michigan

Didnt shoot any pheasants this year but could have shot many, we decided not to take any this year. We own some old fields that are full of very tall grass with a creek in the middle, and sparcly wooded. Oh, and were surrounded by corn and hay.
Great pheas cover!

we also decided not to kill any in michigan, we'll go to a preserve 2 or 3 time during the winter and shoot some there, but otherwise we only kill pheasants in south dakota, when we went to iowa deer hunting we got there two days early and just road hunted for pheasants, seen quite a few birds on private property we couldnt hunt, and did end up lowering the population a few in the 2 days we pheasant hunted!

The corn and hay are real nice especially with the local water source. The population here was weak at best this year.
Maybe more next year.

It is hard to believe that in the last 30 years, pheasants have diminished so low in numbers that I see more turkeys then pheasants? Unbelievable! What happened?

coyotes increasing = pheasents decreasing; seems simple but didn't we have a lot of coyotes 20 years ago? Are there that many more these days?
Who knows. Maybe its pesticides (sp?)

Samething happened in PA as in MI. Pheasants just disappeared. Pesticides might be one of the answers but their has to be others.

There has been a large increase in birds of prey around here too. Owls, hawks, and eagles are seen regularly.

Made it out one last time yesterday with friend that has an incredible pair of Britneys... not hearing someone have to yell at their dogs all day is a nice change. Shot three and sent half a dozen hens for a stretch of their wings to boot. Nice to see the hens. The same field only produced one bird openening day.
Nice day for a hunt though... better than the office.
