Opening day was very exciting. I saw two does that didn't give me a good shot. Later relocated down into the valley below my spot to give a look. I was thinking that I just didn't have the right angle to spot the deer. There was a lot of pressure in the state game area I was hunting and the two I had already seen were moving and there was a lot of gun fire - I thought the lower area was a better funnel for traffic.

I found a nice spot and decided to head back and get my stool. As soon as I stepped out from behind the tree a doe and buck came out of no where and just about ran me over. I pulled up as they put on the breaks and made a hard turn away, shot once, they were about 15 yds away at this point. While I was inspecting the spot for blood, of which there was none, and laughing at myself, another buck came into the opposite end of the low area, about 100 yds out headed right at me. At about 60-70 yds out I took the shot, I had about a 200 yd track and a 2 hour drag. How do you get deer to run towards the car?:D 7 pts / 135lbs dressed, if I could figure out how to attach the picture I would.

Nice job. Congrats. Not sure how you get 'em to run towards your vehicle, but it sure would be nice. Oh and buck fever, everyone get's it once in a while. I know I did when I shot my 8pt in the UP a few years ago.

To get dder to run towards your car is easy. There is two ways either hunt out of you can and flash your lights and honk your horn becasue for some reason thats what people do right before they hit one. or park in a diffrent spot if they dont like running one way park by the other.

I shot a 145 lb 5 point with about the same size rack, and he aged at 1 1/2 years old. So depending on where you got him, the food sources he has had and genetics, he may very well be a 1 1/2 year old. I would say no more than a 2 1/2 if he scaled out at 115.

Either way, congrats on a great deer.

Exactly, I have seen some 2.5 year old deer that would look like to most people a 4-5 year old, then again that was on a hunting show in Texas.:D
