I plan on trying some surf fishing this weekend, but I don't have any sinking line for my 8 weight. Can I use Cortland's sink tip shooting taper on my 444SL running line that I use for chuck-n-duck?
If this is a really dumb question, then what line would you recommend for surf fishing?
Thanks,

Pick yourself up some T-200 sink tip line. That is what I use for the surf and it works great. Easy to cast/dble haul and shoots a good distance.

Another possibility is Cortlands 555 QD200. It is a 200 grain shooting head line, but unlike the Teny the running line is tapered ( no hinge on your loops) and engineered to stay flexable in cold water. I've fished both lines, I am the Cotland rep (disclaimer) but I do feel that the QD200 is easier to manage (less tangles) and casts nicer. Also I have never had a customer complaint on this line including some of the best guides in MI.

Thanks guys. I'll pick up a new line and leave the C&D rig alone.
Tight lines,
