Since Bueters has left Northville I haven't been able to find a good flyshop near me and that is annoying. For the past few weeks I have had to run to Cabelas to get all of my fly fishing goodies. The problem I've come across with Cabelas is the people don't really know as much about their products when I need good answers. I have been toying with the idea of opening up a flyshop in Plymouth MI but to be quite honest that is a scary thought. So many shops have left this part of the state. Royal Oak has a shop but when I needed a particular wader immediately that wasn't happening, I would have had to order it through them in advance. I love to fish, as does my father and brother and turning something we enjoy into some sort of income would be so worth it. If anyone has suggestions for me, or advice, please send me an e-mail at Gaffle@wideopenwest.com. Also anyone from this part of the state wanting a flyshop over here let me know. Thxs for the time and tight lines to all.

I am sure that they reason why all the flyshops down there are/have going out of business is the large retail stores carrying a large fly fishing selection AND the manufacturer's selling their products in those retail stores instead only in local fly shops as they once did. In the very close future, you will be able to purchase an ***** rod in Walmart. ***** IN WALMART!! I have read the memo from ***** to its dealers...

I hope they don't build a Wal Mart in Baldwin!

It is not supposed to be their whole product line but, I guess we will see how it all works out. They are creating the "Green Mountain" line to sell in Walmart. By the price, it looks like it is comparable to the "Silver Label" line. They tried to put a spin the move, saying that it would help to get more people into the sport and THEN in time they would buy a more expensive rod in the future at the fly shop. So, the dealers should make more money, not lose money. All they have to do is to sit and wait for this "future purchase"...

There are very nice fly shops in Grand Blanc and Midland. Lot of people in SE Michigan have gone under however...
I posted the same info on the Michigan Sportsman forum:
Midwest Sports
Brighton MI.
NE corner of Old 23 and Grand River.
FYI- The guys at BBT can UPS to you if you have a day or more.

That being said, BBT is a great fly shop as well! Just mentioning a few of the fly shops in SE Michigan to pop into from time to time...

Just an FYI......Bueters has just relocated. They are now located on the South side Grand River just West of Novi Road. There telephone number is 248/349-3677. They are still in the process of getting ready to open. Should be any day now. He was at the Midwest Fly Fishing expo as well.

Good news to hear Bueter is opening again. My enthusiasm for opening my own store is now gone, but what are ya going to do? I don't think there are enough people fly fishing in lower Michigan to keep more then one fly shop on this side going strong.

A Wal-Mart in Baldwin! LOL Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'd hope for a Taco Bell or Burger King first. Even McDonalds coundn't make it in Baldwin.
I wish anyone trying to open a fishing store nothing but the best of luck.

Is Paint Creek outfitters still there? I moved from the thumb to the GR area about 4 years ago, and haven't regretted it at all. As I recall Paint Creek used to be alright. The only thing that would create more interest in flyfishing in the SE part of the state would be Carp. I know the boys at the FlyMart are guiding for Carp now. That could be a real niche market.

Paint Creek is gone. They sold off their remaining stock at the Macomb Fly Fishing Show.
