The grouse # are good if you know were they are after the leaves are down and what they like to eat. Woodcock still are in good #'s as well and keep the dogs and shotguns happy. :)

This year has been a good year. I have seen deer I could shoot 3 out of 4 hunts. Passed a spike and a doe. The 8 pt. is hanging at the M-37 Meat Shack. I just got home from there. Tenderloins for lunch today. :) :) Good clean kill ran 200 yds.. No trouble tracking. :D

That was a nice buck for this area Clint. Congrats! I understand about the clean shot but long track. I hit lung and liver on mine and he still went over 300 yds. It was pretty amazing he could keep his legs underneath him and moving for that long. never had a problem trailing him with all the blood but it was a long drag out of the woods. Now about the grouse numbers. I have seen alot of them this year. just about everytime i walk in to a couple of my stands i flush one. and i've heard that from alot of people coming into the shop. i have a 1 1/2 year old short hair that i've had out a couple times and he's not quite ready to call what we are doing hunting. we're still in training mode i guess. good luck out there guyz

I've had all kinds blood trails. As long as your hitting vitals and not pushing the time and the deer on the tracking job, all's well that ends well. Some of my least clean kills have been dropping them in there tracks and pulling a Rambow on them. Yardage don't matter much. As long as there is a good blood trail. Sounds like your dog just need some bird killing.Go shot some of those birds around your stand. Your deer won't mind tooo much. They''ll get over the bang and a little dog scent. Unless you have some really big buck your after, then just take him hunting on state land somewhere. See ya BTrout. :)
