Just finished this cane rod for myself to use on my 2 week trip to the Au Sable that I'm leaving on tommorow. The blank is a Leonard 39L Taper 8' 4wt. The seat and grip are maple done by Les of "inserts by Les". Ferules are Goldenwitch. The nickle silver tierd winding check and strap and loop hook keep are also Goldenwitch pieces. The stripper is a Agate, and I used tan wraps with 4 turn black trim bands and permagloss over them.

I just took the rod out back and cast it for the first time.....Talk about smooth and parabolic. This is exactly what I have been wanting to build for the past 2 years now and I am super happy with the look and feel of the rod.

Nice rod! How long did it take you to do that?
If you don't like it you can always donate to the Alex Sundquist Foundation!:p :D

I heard the guy that runs that Foundation was under investigation by the IRS :D ;)

Thanks Alex. Once I started it I had it done in about 2 nights (working on it about 4/5 hrs each night.

Where did you get the blank? I have built about 10 graphite fly rods over the years and I have always wanted to do a boo......

A couple moderators and others build blanks for sale, one of these supplied his blank... in case Steve hasn't answered in a PM or something.

fliesonly1234 sorry for the delay in replying, I was out of town for the past 2 weeks fishing.

Don linked you to the site where I have a friend that builds split cane blanks for me. He does some really nice work and is far cheaper than most other cane blank builders. If you wanted his number just Pm me and I can pass it along to you.
