OK folks, it looks like the 10th of June is the date for this years spring cleanup and I'm hoping we'll have another great turn out. I do, however, need to try and get at least a feel for the amount of participation before hand so that I can figure on a menu for the appreciation party afterward.

More than likely I'll have it catered again as this worked out very well for the fall cleanup, but given enough participation It wouldn't break my heart to do another pig roast on my own again...

I WILL try and set next years event earlier so that the cleaning is more efficient, (Trash is not hidden in the grass etc...) but we are stuck with this date this year so it would go a long way toward a more successful event to have as much participation as possible. ie. We'll need as many people walking the banks along side the boats as we can get in order to spot most of the trash.

Please take a moment to sign up here and I look forward to seeing all of you that can make it! A simple "I'm in!" or "I'm in and bringing three friends." will work, we'll toss out more details a we go...

Thanks again to West Michigan TU for the donation and the use of their underwater garbage grabbers!

Steve

PS. We still have a fair number of spaces left in out Fly Fishing School on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of June if any of you or someone you know might be interested in learning new skills or honing the ones you have. The School is a lot of fun and well worth the cost of admission. (Also a great Fathers day or Graduation gift!) Contact the shop toll free @ 1-877-42-5394

I am very interested in the river cleanup. on the other hand, I just got the boat about 3 months ago and am a little worried about my rowing capabilities on the P.M. I havent been brave enough to try it yet with all the boats out for Steelhead. Maybe its a good time to attempt it. I just dont want you guys to have to clean up me and my boat from the river, rather than the trash.......thanks.....any advice would be nice..

Steve;
Count me in. I will bring help and will have my boat. Do you want me to get a float permit? Do you know which section you would like us to float?
Best, Wayne

Steve,

I am planning to come too. Let me know if you need anything or any help getting things together.

Also, I should have at least one seat available for a good "trash picker" and possibly a second. We can work out the details the morning of the event.

See you all soon,

Steve, To help with your head count, it looks as if I'll make up bringing one other person. Arranged to float with Jason for the day and we'll make it for the Sat night festivities.

We'll see you then.

I'll post more details in tomorrows report, but as of right now we'll be meeting at the shop @ 8:00 am on Saturday and we'll be having my wife's lasagna and salad for dinner! I think I'll have all the float permits and car spots covered, will say for sure tomorrow.

Looking forward to it,
Steve

IF everyone who said they're coming to the cleanup makes it with the people they said they might bring we should have a crew that is upwards of 30 to 35 participants and either way I expect it'll be another great success. To answer a few recent questions here is what's going on. We will meet, as usual, at the shop at 8:00 am on Saturday morning. If you have a boat, bring it, you won't need a float permit as they (The USFS) are allowing me to spread us out as needed once I have a chance to place everyone in boats that wants to (If possible) and assign beats. If it's not needed I'll have a place for you to park it and go with someone else, but better safe than sorry. This weekend is free parking at all sites as well as free fishing weekend so parking passes and fishing licenses are also not needed.

So far we have always had enough craft on-hand to offer a ride to those that want it, but there is never any guarantee. If not, I've got plenty of places one can walk in and clean up. Those in boats should be doing plenty of walking as well anyway as the most effective method is for the rower to put a person out on each bank kicking thru the grass for trash while he or she moves the boat down river picking trash with a stick and nail or something of the like. Log jams are always a treasure trove for a boat, but just be careful!

It's up to you how long you stay out, but all are welcome to start showing up at my place that evening starting at around 6:00 or 6:30 for a pre-dinner social hour of sorts. My wife Karen is making enough lasagna, bread sticks and salad for everyone so if you do want to bring something make it either an appetizer or dessert to pass. Bring your own beverage of choice and I expect we'll be serving the actual dinner at about 7:30 sharp. Anyone who has not signed up or let me know some other way that you'll be coming is still welcome to come! We always allow for a few extras and it's one of those things where the more is the merrier! Both the Red Moose Lodge and Baldwin Creek Motel are offering special rates for clean up people, I'm not sure how booked they are.

On a last note I want to do a brief shameless plug! Trout fishing, over all, is pretty good and getting better. Big bugs will probably show within the next week and my guide calendar opens right up again after this Sunday and Monday's trips. Anyone interested in an evening trip for big browns with me should call the shop and grab a date now! As my wife (The Hex/mousing widow) can attest I'll be out every evening with or with out trip, but believe it or not, I take just as much pleasure in trying to put you on the fish of a lifetime as I do myself. Spin and fly combination trips are always welcome as well. At any rate, good fishing to you all, looking forward to the cleanup and use the toll free line if you decide to come have some fun! 1-877-422-5394

Tight lines all,
Steve

Steve,

Thanks again for sponsoring another cleanup of the PM. Your long efforts to protect this great resource are extremely appreciated by many sportsmen and women across the state and even a few outside of Michigan. I hope that you keep up the great work long into the future!
