This was on Michigan-Sportsman. Anyone who bird or deer hunts in Newaygo county should be totally FOR this timber harvest.
M37 Grouse Project - National Forest Comments Needed.
I got this email from RGS Regional Biologist. The fight to get cuttings done on Manistee National Forest is a difficult one. This is very very important whether you hunt in this area or not, as the MNF is very mature and cutting is decreasing every minute.
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO SEND YOUR THOUGHTS and SUPPORT FOR ACTIVE ASPEN MANAGEMENT VIA Logging for this Project.
RGS Members in Michigan:
The Huron-Manistee National Forest is asking for public comments on a proposed project located approximately 8 miles north of White Cloud in Newaygo County. This proposal is called the M-37 Project.
As part of the project, the Forest is proposing to regenerate 575 acres of aspen - this will be extremely beneficial to ruffed grouse, woodcock and those of us who hunt these two critters.
Please take a moment to voice your support for the M-37 Project by sending a short note to:
Ms. Cynthia George
Baldwin-White Cloud Ranger Districts
P.O. Box Drawer D
650 N. Michigan Ave.
Baldwin, MI 49304
EMAIL Ms. CYNTHIA GEORGE AT cgeorge@fs.fed.us
In your note, you should explicitly support the proposed aspen habitat management.
Attached are RGS comments on the proposed project.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Dan Dessecker at rgsdess@chibardun.net.
Thanks for your help!
