View Full Version : so close...
So I hunted all day friday. Had 5 deer come out, a few chasing each other, and aroudn 12 I had a curious doe come out. She got all the way up to 30 yards and all I needed was 5 more yards and she was mine. Then the wind picked up. She never looked at me and turned around to take off. Then I made a grunt at her and she stopped. Then she slowly walked away.
Tonight had a does sneak up behind me. Must of been watching me because the second I noticed her she took off. She was 20 yds away.
Thinking about going out tomarrow, but I changed my mine and decided to hang out with some friends. Probably go out and changed my stand location tomarrow in the high winds. Monday and tuesday I plan out being all day long. Watch out bucks!!!

Your getting there Dan. I think that is the most positive news that I have heard from you on your stand location in a while. How far off the ground are you? Does the tree have alot of limbs to break up your outline, or is it "bald" and the deer skyline you?
Dan, IMHO I wouldn't move that stand just yet. Unless you don't feel comfy in that tree (i.e naked" no limbs, to small in dia, etc etc), then by all means move it. But stay in the same area. You are seing deer and they are within range for you, sit tight and see what happens. Beside's, in a couple days you will have a gun in your hands (are you gun hunting?) so distance really wont matter, lol.
Good luck
Dale,
I have one of those cheap tree stands that unless the tree is straight up, there is no way you can hunt it. The piece of woods I hunt is a young forest. There are alot of small trees and what is left of dead tree. I am hunting out of a oak and hunt right at the crosh section of the tree, about 10 feet up.
I will also being borrowing a climber from a friend as of thursday so I will beable to move closer if I have to.
I was going to move it tonight but have decided to leave it. Plan on hunting all day tuesday and move the stand when I leave to go rifle hunting else where before thanksgiving. I think I should beable to bag a buck at least by the time I head for deer camp which will be after thanksgiving.
One can only hope another buck will come in
