I was going for some steelies in the 2nd week of Nov. this year. This will be my first Steelhead trip, Usually I go in Oct. for Salmon and wanted to try steelhead. Any ideas on hook size for tying egg patterens and do other patterens work well? Im really looking forward to this trip and wanted to start tying up some flies, Thx. for any and all info, Sean

For fall steelhead you should be able to get away with a #6 egg hook. I would probably go with a 8 or 10.
Other patterns that have worked well for steelies for me are pheasant tails (I prefer flashbacks), prince nymphs, hair's ears, and most any general mayfly or stonefly pattern. Also, try tying variations on the egg pattern: i.e. nuke egg, halo egg.
Get a few flies together and go fish them! You'll figure out what you like and what you don't.
